Application Process

Thank you for your interest in the fellowship! We will be accepting applications for our July 2026 fellowship beginning in April 2025 until September 2025.

Qualifications:

  • Applicants must hold an MD or DO degree

  • Applicants must have completed residency in Family Medicine, Med-Peds, or Internal Medicine 

  • Applicants are encouraged to apply while completing their final year of residency

  • Applicants must be planning a primary care career in academic and clinical medicine

  • Applicants must be a United States citizen or a lawful permanent US resident with a resident alien permit or green card.  The fellowship is not able to sponsor J-1 or other visas

Selection Process

The fellowship selection committee will holistically review the candidate’s application for evidence of:

  • Clinical excellence with confidence in providing comprehensive LGBTQ+-inclusive care, including gender-affirming hormone therapy

  • Demonstration of experience in clinical quality improvement and leadership of clinical teams

  • Collaboration with local, regional, or national organizations focused on improving healthcare for LGBTQ+ individuals

  • Scholarly work in LGBTQ+ health or other health equity activities

  • Service and community engagement with LGBTQ+ individuals or populations

  • Good standing throughout residency, fellowship or other post graduate engagements.

  • Ongoing development of professionalism, leadership skills, and cultural competence as demonstrated by letters of recommendation and personal statements

  • Commitment to advancing LGBTQ+ health in academic or community-based primary care as assessed by past accomplishments and career goals

Holistic review of candidates will consider:

  • Clinical excellence

  • Good standing throughout residency (and fellowship or other post-residency roles, if applicable)

  • Collaboration with local, regional, or national LGBTQ+ organizations

  • Scholarly portfolio (e.g., presentations, publications, QI projects, education/curriculum contributions), with preference given to contributions in LGBTQ+ health or health equity activities

  • Community service relevant to LGBTQ+ individuals or populations

  • Demonstrated commitment to advancing health equity

  • Personal attributes and professional behaviors as evaluated by letters of recommendation and the content of the candidate’s statements 

  • Commitment to a career serving as a champion for LGBTQ+ health in academic or community-based primary care as assessed by past accomplishments and career goals
